Surya Salutation started in India thousands of years ago as a form of worship to the Hindu God of Sun, Surya. Though a thousand years had passed, Indians and Hindus continue to practice Surya Salutation even in modern times. Basically, Surya Salutation consists of twelve asanas. This means that performing a complete round of Surya Namaskar needs to complete two sets of twelve asanas. In addition, each series of movement in Surya Namaskar have different levels of awareness that includes physical exercise and complete sadhana (asanas, chakra meditation, mantra and pranayama).
Performing yoga routines such as in Surya Namaskar provides you with great health benefits. Practicing yoga every day helps a lot in losing weight, as well as making your body fit. Not only that, yoga is also an excellent stress remover, through meditation, which is a part of yoga routine. Meditation clears your mind and alleviates stress.

Surya Namaskar also offers great deal of benefits. Practicing Surya Namaskar in the morning helps you rejuvenate your mind, energize your body and remove stiffness in the body. When practiced either on noon or in the afternoon also refresh your mind. When practice in the evening, it will help you have a relaxing feeling on your body as well as your mind, so that you will have a good night sleep.

Having no time to practice Surya Namaskar doesn’t mean you don’t have the chance of achieving its health benefits. The key is you are practicing the yoga properly. Practicing yoga at least once a day is good, though more than that could yield better results.

Physical health benefits are obvious in practicing yoga, but its benefits are not limited to physical alone. Practicing Surya Pranam stimulates all parts of the body. Surya Namaskar provides health benefits to the heart through stimulating cardiovascular system, improved blood circulation and oxygenating the blood. Proper blood circulation makes the heart grow stronger.

Surya Namaskar also improves the digestion process of the digestive system, reduced breathing problems by improving respiratory system, and improving endocrine system. Surya Namaskar clearly provides a lot of health benefits making those who practice it correctly become healthy.
